Engine had spun main bearings so I tore it down and replaced the crankshaft with a new/resurfaced one and bearings etc. Everything looked identical so I reassembled the engine. When I tried to put the crankshaft position sensor back, it would not sit flush. It needed about 1/8-1/4 of an inch and looked inside and the sensor was hitting the crank reluctor. I thought maybe I did something wrong. After doing some research I found out that the 96 Crank has a 6.937" reluctor and the 98 and up Crank has 7.25" reluctor. This means the crankshaft I bought must’ve had the bigger reluctor on it although when I purchased it, it said it was for a 96. My question is could I possibly get away with buying the crankshaft position sensor for the 98 and have it fit and work or will I have no choice but to dissemble the engine again and swap out the reluctor. Also does anyone know if the reluctor ring itself is where the size difference is? Hoping I won’t have to tear it down again and have to get all new gaskets. Thanks in advance.
