MAP AND DIRECTIONS:

Google Maps Directions to the Eldorado Outpost - Located just outside of the trails.

To get to the Arrowhead Campground from the Outpost, turn left out of the parking lot. Look for the sign for the horse camp and turn left on SR1154. Make a right at the "T" intersection onto SR544. Go past the horse camp to the stop sign at the next T intersection. You will see a sign saying Arrowhead Campground is to the left. Make the left onto the dirt road SR597. Make a right at the sign marking the turn to the camp ground on SR597B. The road is paved just before you pass a dump station. When you get into Arrowhead, keep your speed down and watch out for the speed bumps. The road will fork. You have to go to the right because the road becomes one way. The camp sites are well marked by numbers and with the last name of the person making the reservation.

THINGS TO BRING:

You must have a trail pass. An annual pass is $30. A day pass is $5 per day. Trail passes can be purchased at the Outpost.

It often rains at least one day during the event. So rain gear and tarps are recommended. Fire wood is always appreciated.

It is a good idea to bring a tool kit and some trail spares, as I can tell you from experience that sh_t happens on the trails. We tend to help one another out so if everybody brings something, we usually have everything covered and there is an auto parts store in Troy.

FOOD AND SUPPLIES:

This tends to be a very informal event. People come and go as they please; some preferring to hang out at camp or go fishing instead of trail riding. With the Flintlock Range now open, some will also go shooting (passes are $3 per day and are available at the Outpost). So bring enough food and drink to last the entire event. Food, drink and ice are available at the Outpost or in Troy. The Outpost also has a good breakfast for around $5. Usually there is a group dinner on Friday. If the weather is bad on Sat, we sometimes go into town and have dinner at Zeno's.

LEGAL DISCLAIMER NOTICE:
As always, this will be a completely un-sponsored and unofficial event ... No clubs or organizations will be overseeing the activities. This is simply going to be a bunch of friends and online acquaintances getting together for a weekend of fun, good food, and lots of off-road amusement.

ALL attendees will be utterly and solely responsible for themselves and the guests within their individual group(s) (including all vehicles and equipment), and shall be expected to abide by the laws, rules, and policies set-down by our true hosts, the United States Forestry Service and the people of the great state of North Carolina.

Just booked #34 for Friday and Saturday nights. I'm bringing my son Brad and my grandson Will. I do have a question since this is my first time camping, are they strict on the 4 PM check in if no one is there prior, or can I pull up at any time on Friday?

It has never been a problem in the past. I have checked in as early as 1 PM. But we don't know if things have changed. Janet left last year and we don't know what the new host will do. I suspect that the 4 pm time was only to provide time for a turnover of the site, just like in hotels. Since most times there is no one leaving the site on the day we arrive, I do not think it will be an issue to arrive in early. Just go to your site and you will see your name posted on a sign. Set up camp. There is no formal check-in.

x2 on this. I was out there the week before last and arrived at my reserved spot at 11a, no one had been there the day prior so there was no problem with me getting settled in. The current site host is super nice, I'll be there this coming week and will tell her to take good care of anyone driving an ISUZU on this weekend.

Ok I am off crutches and reserved site 13 the 2cnd-6th. While healing up from the motorcycle accident I took the time to do a few things to the trooper. First on the list was strengthening all I bent last Hollowharrie. I did address the HD tie rod ends, center link and idler arm. We will see if they hold up. Second was upper and lower control arm bushings. The first two went like clock work and I felt like doing a write up to show all you complainers how its done but after the second two about killed me I felt like selling the old girl or swapping the IFS out for straight axle! Holy cow those bushings sucked! sucked SUCKED! While I had the front apart I decide to squeeze as much up and down out of the IFS as I POSSIBLY could. This ended up being a month long project. I cut, shaved, re-splined, welded, sanded.........superglued......ok no superglue....I squeezed 10.5" of travel, about 7" up and 3.5" down. Sounds impossible I know but I have documented it and will post it one day. I then turned my attention to something that was alive on the Planet years ago but died.......Thats all I can say right now. Im in the middle of that project along with running dual exhaust with crossover pipe. Well I have a month or so but I hope to be done with it all in two weeks or less. Hope everyone has a safe trip up and back. See yall there.

I'd like to make it out and meet some of the crew. Had the pleasure of stopping by Mr. J.Lemond's place to pick up some parts recently - awsome guy!

I have a bunch of work to do on my trooper before I feel its trail ready, with any luck will get most of it done. ( manual lock hubs, ball joints, wheel bearings, brake upgrade, fix wiper motor, replace alternator, install winch? etc) and the big one - replace the CV axles. My passenger side axle does not seat into the diff properly. Whatever holds it into the center chunk is missing or broken - Jerry tells me this a big job. ugh, oh well...

If I can not get all done, I will probably just ride up, camp out and maybe ride shotgun with someone?

I'll be coming out of Suwanee, GA or maybe Cumming, GA if I have to leave from work. I'd be up for a caravan, if anyone is interested. CB install will happen this weekend - if my luck holds out.

Any camp sites better/ worse for tents?

Looking forward to the trip and meeting some new friends. :D

There are a couple of towns close by with cheap hotels/motels. Lexington and Albermarle are the two bigger ones that I know have hotels but there may even be places in Troy.

Yea Willie was saying something about some cottages near by he knows about depending on the weather is where I'm going to stay. Either way I'm excited first time out there.

The Uwharrie Cabins are all booked up.

Just booked a cabin on some website, not a URE cabin, but one on 109 somewhere between Troy and the Outpost, so after a 2 year absence, the DMD will be rolling URE way. Can hardly wait! Plan is for Blaine (MrDunge) to meet up and follow me down and trying to get Mike( PhotoTrooper) on board too. Mike might be shaky, new baby girl and working on getting on with the VA State Police haven't left a lot of time to work on his Trooper. But at least two more first gen's headed down and we are prettying them up for the ride. My LSD rear is out (noisy) but hope to have it back in before we leave, open rear is in until I can get it done. Looking forward to seeing the Shack in person and wondering how much VA Gentleman it will take to fix the door :D

Anybody planning on shooting? Little guns or big guns?

Yeah Ssiggy URE cabins were all booked almost two months ago when I first checked, those cabins stay booked on weekends. My wife checked my camping gear a few weeks ago, after looking at my sleeping bag and my tent, she suggested a cabin or a motel. I'm pretty sure I no longer have a sleeping bag or a tent.
