Torque on oil pan to engine 1990 2.6L?

Postby thrombolite » Thu Apr 29, 2021 5:41 pm

Hi folks,
Rebuilding a 2.6L 1990 Trooper. For attaching the oil pan to the engine (not the final cover), how much torque? My rebuild kit has the thick rubber gasket so it is funky. Too much torque and it splooges out. Suggestions? I will use RTV liberally as well.

Thanks, Russell

Thanks but I think I am saying it wrong. It is not the outer most "pan" with the drain plug, but the casing that is between the pan and the block. All other engines I have worked on have the pan against the block, not a two piece system.

I did see the unmeasureable tiny torque. Is that what folks do in practice? Do you use any Loctite to ensure the bolts don't come out?

This is my first Trooper rebuild so I appreciate the newby advice. And thank you for the factory image.

Thank you for your patience and, yes, you are correct. The "Dot" looked like a plug. Appreciate it!
