OOPS

With the mid engine c8 corvette, the car center of gravity has moved to such an extent that lifting it the same way you would a c7, will cause it to fall rearward off the lift as this dealer mechanic found out.

Expensive mistake! But, really, how do you make that mistake? Every vehicle has different lift points.

Any time I picked up a vehicle, I would place my lift pads, lift it just a few inches, and then try rocking or shaking to make sure it was positioned properly. On our old single post in-ground lifts, we had to position the lift arms differently if we were removing a transmission pan. Dennis

Well, that's a horror story that ended up well for the guy.

And I take it back, your Fiero needs a new LS3 6.2 Corvette engine, with 430hp and 425 ft-lb torque. That'll make it move! And it'll probably get better mpg, too!!

A friend of mine has a newer Chevy truck with the LS3 and he got 25mpg on a long trip from WA to CA. Way better than my Trooper, in a far heavier vehicle. Amazing!

yeah, if it doesn't shake apart from the sheer torque and Horse power.....lol

I hang out with a bunch of Fiero owners and geeks....and I've seen two upgrades..one being a SC 3800...the other being a engine, circa 1993..cadillac Northstar V12...and both of those Fiero GT's, flew like bats out of hades, if you catch my drift....

Before this post, I had never heard of a Northstar V-12. Had to look it up. Now I wonder what it sounds like "uncapped". I'm guessing it is a 4 valve engine? Dennis

They fit into the engine compartment of the Fiero, with little -or-no problems....the engine was originally designed for the Allante...in 1992 / 93

they were high output...all aluminum, dual overhead cam....producing around 750 horses...

early problems centered on two issues....

head gasket issues....and acute overheating,,,,,,,

followed by head bolt failures, ..

in 2000, GM ADDRESSED the head gasket glitches, and fixed problems with the block and head bolts. by the time GM fixed those gremlins, they had a decent power plant......two engines are favored by Fiero owners...replacing the original 2.8 V6 ...IS THE Super charged 3800......and of course, the North star

I'm strongly considering doing the northstar...replacing my V6....

I'm trying to wrap my head around how one could fit a V-12 in where a V-6 had been, especially when both are 60 degree Vees. That 2.8 must have a LOT of extra room in there. I'm thinking back when there were more Suzuki Samurais on the road and someone came up with a V-8 conversion kit. They had to make an extended hood and front fenders to fit it all.
Of course for me, the thought of an experimental aircraft conversion from this engine (even though I will most likely never be able to afford THAT again). The thought of a REAL V-12...
FWIW, the original Allison (GM offshoot) V-12s had dual overhead cams and 4 valves per cylinder. Nothing new, just a new way of doing something old. The Allisons and R/R Merlins had shaft driven cams. Dennis
