I went looking for a bigger alternator. My stock 90amp sucks. 110amp seems like a waste of time to mess with.180 is good but not available stock. Yeah, I know a few of you use those gm mods for yours. No thanks...
How about instead, using a direct bolt on. I found this from a company I trust. I don't work for them. I'm just a customer. This thing makes 220 amps!!! And it bolts right in. Direct fit. Enjoy!

I am familiar with this brand and have this 220a alternator installed on my dedicated off road trooper. I works very well at supplying power to my winch and on broad welder.

Shawn, which generation is your Trooper?
I ran a dual-alternator system almost 10 years ago but moving the smog pump in and out was a pain. This seems like a heck of a deal if it's legit (the 160A for the 2.6L)

What welder, and I assume, inverter? Are you using?

Premier Power welder fits under the hood. no inverter required, runs directly off the alternator.

Mine is on a 1998 Rodeo with the 3.2L. I imagine it will fit them all. Very cool on the portable welder rig. I'd be in the woods building all kinds of cool stuff.

The easiest and cheapest fit is 150A Denso 8973089961 alternator, which can be salvaged from Renault Espace / Vel Satis. In EU you can get it secondhand for ~$30. It's a plug&play installation, the only thing that requires modifications is soldering new plug to the harness.
