1998 Trooper antenna mast replacement

Postby dsjoyce » Mon Nov 09, 2020 3:02 pm

My recently-bought Trooper came without an antenna mast. The previous owner was vague about the reason why, I assumed it snapped at some point. I'm trying to work out if it's replaceable: I took some photos where it looks like a replacement might slot in some how, but I couldn't spot any threading on the part that emerges from the fender. I do see two small slots but am not sure what they do. Would anyone know if this is the stock fitting, and is it salvageable? Would rather not have to replace the whole antenna if I can avoid it.

It appears that the thread has snapped of in the base. If you can get the piece out, you should be able to thread in a replacement antenna.

Good to know, thanks. So it sounds like the smaller inner diameter part should come out if I unscrew it, is that correct? The part with the two slots should stay where it is?

If you want good reception I would replace antennae. I intend to replace my 95 trooper ant. The factory manual shows how to remove 2-3 screws from under fender, remove plastic fender insert. Inside looks like you have to remove the plastic console. Good luck. You can find a copy of factory manual here on the forum. I think it was Steve who resurected the manual.
