Fog Lights / Fuse Box

Hello! I am wrapping up installation of some period correct looking fog lights on my 88 Trooper. The switch needs switched power (so that the lights can't be turned on and left on with no key in ignition,etc.), I was wondering if there is a blank power lead or area that I can tap into somewhere? The PIAA's are on a 30 fuse, so was wondering where I could plug in the main light power lead as well. I don't like the idea of going straight to battery. I see that there is a fog light area in fuse panel, but it's only a 20 or 15 (can't remember).

What has worked for you on this project?

Figured out to use a spade connector in my unused power window relay area in the fuse panel. It has a switched lead.

Another option, might be safer, maybe not - I don't know exactly what you did - is an ATO/ATC fuse tap.

Piggy back fuse tap. I used these to put a trans cooler gauge on my a-pillar; I needed to take-off power from my headlight circuit so it dimmed; also non-interruptible 12v power (for color light memory) straight from battery (different issue).

You may be like "$7 for a fuse tap?" and I would totally agree. This is the first hit the search found. I got like a box of 10 of them for $6 off ebay. Just to illustrate.

That 30 amp main lead needs to go to the battery. Pulling that much current off of any random wire in the truck is a really bad idea. You can get your relay/switch control wire anywhere you need as it is very low current, but the high current light wiring needs to straight to battery with a fuse within 12" of the battery. The ground for the lights needs to be a good solid ground point (such as the ground bolt next to the battery box).
