2002 Axiom; P0300 P1311

Postby AnCapKenny » Mon Apr 12, 2021 7:40 pm

Hello all, I’m new here and really appreciate this forum and all the efforts that individuals have put into this.

My problems started with my cooling fan bracket snapping off and throwing the serpentine belt. After replacing the bracket and fan clutch, I fired it up and have an extremely rough idle, upon starting and very odd acceleration/rpm/power issues. P0300 and P1311 codes appear upon reader. I can run the live diagnostics, but don’t really know what I’m looking for, to pinpoint the problem. The code reader says to replace ECM. Some professionals (mechanics/parts guys/etc.) I’ve spoken to, have suggested and/or contradicted one another by suggesting 1) timing belt has advanced; 2) plugs/coils are bad; 3) cam positioning sensor is bad; 4) vacuum leak/air intake problems; other miscellaneous problems.

I would appreciate any help in where to start.

Thanks in advance,

Kenneth

What physical damage occurred when the fan broke off?
Did the engine keep running?
Have you replaced any parts other than the fan bracket and serpentine belt?

P0300 is multiple misfire and P1311 is a RH bank related combustion problem. These faults were detected by the Ion Sensing Ignition module, check the wires connected to it for damage. The module sits on top of the intake manifold.

No physical damage, other than a few fins on the radiator were bent - I was shocked. I replaced the injector o-rings, but that’s it. All wiring looks fine, but that’s only visually. I’m lost.

When you were replacing the fan bracket did you do any work that could have resulted in the timing belt becoming misaligned? I recommend you run a compression test on all cylinders and compare the left and right banks. DTC P0300 and DTC P1311 suggests the valve timing in the RH bank may be incorrect.
