2001 trooper P401

Postby AlanMac » Thu May 27, 2021 1:55 pm

Hi All, My trooper check engine light came on wit a P401 fault. I have a 8 month old MAP sensor (Delphi PS10002 OEM) and a 1 month old Delphi EGR Valve EG10175-11B1 listed as OEM part on Summit and Rock Auto). Exhaust system has no leaks. I removed cleaned the EGR outlet tube on the plenum 5 years ago, it was packed solid then. Today I cleaned the outlet tube out, there could have been a minor obstruction when I pushed the brush in tube end. I cleaned the tube thoroughly and blew it out with compress air. Hopefully that fixes the problem but I have some doubt.

Reviews are good, does anyone have experience with this device? Does it support all Tech2 functionality? Any input is appreciated. Alan

Pending P401 came back. on the first run after outlet tube cleanout. Update: took the EGR valve off and jammed a brush in as far as possible in the inlet tube , jammed a wire in as far as possible. Blew the tube out with compressed air. The tube is clear because compressed air was coming out the exhaust. Ran the trooper twice and no codes. maybe....doubt.....

My 401 is very intermittent and can drive it a long time before it returns. Everything checks out per the shop manual P401 diagnostic check, except I can't test the EGR itself w/o a tech 2. Yesterday I went to two Pick and Pulls and looked at four potential Isuzu and Honda passports for EGR valves. I found one that has the original P/N. It looks old but hopefully fixes the problem.

The OEM EGR valve P/N 8-17096-178-3 (thanks Buster) that I picked from the junk yard fixed the problems. The P/N is laser etched on top of the plastic, look for 170961783. Wow I am so happy... Great idle, more power through the complete RPM range. This is like night and day difference. The Delphi EGR is listed at many parts suppliers as "actual OEM part" but it isn't made to the Isuzu specs needed. Do not waste money or time with a replacement EGR valve.
