Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has any expertise or tips for ditching the belt-driven radiator fan for an electric one? I have a basic idea for what to do (get similar sized electric fan, connect to temp sensor to tell it when to turn on/off, etc.) but I would love to hear from everyone on if they did this and how/results.

Thank You!

Adding a electric cooling fan will not increase you vehicles performance. If your current cooling system is function as it should leave it alone. If you must go with a electric fan use Derale brand products ONLY. You will need the fallowing products to put togeter a simple system that will function just as good as the vehicles orignial mechanical cooling fan.

You need this fan

You will also need this fan controller.

I'm under the impression that you have to spend a lot of money to get an electric fan that performs as well as stock. What is the reason you want to convert?

I'm sure someone has done it and I'll let them answer.
I was mostly curious. I figured that if I removed the belt-driven fan and converted to an electric one, it would put slightly less strain on the belt and/or increase gas mileage.

I appreciate the info! Would it be practical to pull an electric fan off of another isuzu? I live near a few junkyards/part re-sellers.

My buddy had a 7mt (first gen Supra engine) in his 1st gen 4Runner and converted to an electric fan and had constant cooling issues because the fans couldn't keep up.

I don't think it'd help with gas mileage in the same way that people assume that manual hubs helps with gas mileage, but they don't.

When I first got my Trooper I had the exact same thought about converting to electric, but my wiser friends educated me that is hard to beat the effectiveness of a belt driven fan. True to that, I've never had cooling problems in any of my Isuzus. Just a few weeks ago I pulled my dirt bike on a trailer both ways up Eisenhower tunnel. Coming from West to East is 7 miles of continuous up hill. I basically had it floored in 3rd gear the entire way and nothing ever got hot.

Thank you, I appreciate it! Good to know, just looking for any improvements I can make haha.
