Put Foot Rally, South Africa

A friend of mine from South Africa (Planet member name: Turbine Rub) turned me onto this event they do across 5 countries in southern Africa. I would love to get my Trooper down there to make the adventure, but then it's far easier and cheaper to just rent a rig. Poking around the website, it doesn't look like a 4x4 is really needed (I saw a Mini in one photo), but with a statement like "We cannot guarantee that you will have a road to drive on the whole way around. We also take no responsibility for any piece of your vehicle that decides to detach or reshape..or detach... itself as a consequence of your navigation or driving skills" it would surely help! (And don't stray from the course. See rules page!)

8,000km in 18 days through 5 awesome African countries. Looks like a Burning Man gone road trip, South African style!

Anyone else think this would be fun to do next year???

I just read through all of that and watched the video on their page. That looks like a crazy fun time! I would love to do that, but 18 days is a long time to step away from life and keep things going. I noticed that everyone seems pretty young too, like 30 or younger. I imagine it would be pretty taxing for older folks or those with families. It's a shame, because that looked awesome! I've done some small, local rallies before but would love to do a traveling trip one day. I hope you get to do this and post up about it!!!

If I do get to go, I will for sure post a full report! As for the 30 or younger crowd, I don't fall into that category anymore but it won't stop me. :) Old(er) guys can still have fun too!
