If you're going to ask 17k for a car you better at least know the difference between automatic and manual haha. Guess they have to make their money back for the gallon of tire shine they used

And they included the name of probably every vehicle ever made in the listing. I have never seen keyword spamming taken to THAT extreme! I have a deep distrust of keyword spammers.

That's how you get your ad seen by more people. That's a pretty extensive list though.

It is, if you want to spam everybody with search results they care nothing about, and if you're completely unethical and unprincipled. Even with just SOME people doing that, you get loads of unintended results when doing a search. Imagine how useless the "search" would be, if everybody used that same tactic.

Everyone does do that, to an extent. Let's face it, no one is looking for an Isuzu when they are car shopping.

NO THEY DON'T. And since when was that relevant? I can hear my mother..."If everybody jumped off a cliff..." :D

And WE look for Isuzus when car shopping.

I understand having pet peeves about certain things. This is more about learning the search function and how it operates. I think when I sold my Amigo (to some kids young enough that they probably didn't even know what it was), I listed a bunch of tags relating to 4wd, off-road, and then manufactures of common mainstream off-road vehicles, Toyota, Jeep, etc. That was on Craigslist. I don't know about other vehicle sales sites.

If there are sites that have a poor search function (ironic that we're discussing this on here, haha) that doesn't filter the ads so that the actual vehicle listed for sale doesn't show up first relative to the search request, I could see this as a problem.

To your point though, when YouTubers started using click-bait titles to manipulate YouTubes awful logarithm, I stopped watching a lot of channels, even though I understood exactly what and why they were doing.

Perfectly legitimate by anybody's standards, I'd think.
Enemigo wrote:and then manufactures of common mainstream off-road vehicles, Toyota, Jeep, etc.
That's where the line is crossed. Those share some commonality (they all have wheels, they all have engines, they all are offroad-related, etc.) but from a searcher's perspective, they're generally unrelated. That's gaming the system. It seems everybody is okay with DOING that when it's them, but on the other hand, everybody hates irrelevant search results. :(

That's how I got into Isuzu. I wrecked a Tacoma and wanted to get back into off-roading. Isuzu wasn't even on my radar until I came across something on accident.

Then you're the happy exception. For every one of you, there are a million users cursing their spammed search results. :cussing:
