FORUM hosting etc for RVs

Postby QuantumRift » Thu May 23, 2019 9:18 pm

Hey all, I belong to a Safari Owners Group, and it's sort of a forum, however, it's hosted on Yahoo and it's a real REAL REAL piece of shyte. It's slow, cumbersome - searching for messages, etc You can get an email feed for messages but the issue is that you get inundated with messages - there's no picking and choosing what threads you can be notified on. You get a digest dump of every email message, and it's aggravating and frustrating. I've raised the idea that 'Hey, maybe we need to move to a different, BETTER forum platform" and I get beat up by these old bastages who just think Yahoo forum is all that and a bag of chips.

What is the procedure for getting a forum, such as this PlanetIsuzoo form, hosted and maintained... Imagine, if you will, a world where EVERY message and thread posted on every forum gets dumped into your email. And when I suggest to move, they all say, but what about all the uploads here, we'll lose them, etc....

HELP! I need some suggestions and information.

THanks in advance, folks.

I've had really similar experience but with a different "Yahoo! group". We eventually moved to a forum, which I hosted and set up (with the understanding that I would not be a forum admin or moderator). We switched the Yahoo! group to "read only" (essentially an online archive) and in our forum, we posted links back to the Yahoo! group.

We eventually made it "read only" as well, because we couldn't find anybody who had the time and interest to moderate it.

If you'd like a step-by-step explanation, PM me and we can arrange a phone call on a weekend.
