2000 Isuzu trooper parts, need recommendations

Postby Tamriel » Fri May 22, 2020 8:24 pm

Hello Zu Crew, I am currently down to the last CEL code(P0128)) on my Isuzu trooper that I just recently purchased. I am need of recommendation on some parts. I have looked up online and AutoZone etc. I found some parts that are not OEM obviously and I am uncertain to buy.

I have found OEM & lifetime warranty combos at AutoZone before, but not for what I need.

**I need the two gaskets for the transmission pans, both small and large & the transmission filter.
**I need thermostat, and thermostat gasket

Thanks you guys!

Are you aware that you have to remove the intake manifold to replace the thermostat?
If you remove the intake manifold you need intake and throttle body gaskets.
you should also replace the heater core coolant pipe gaskets located under the intake manifold.

When I am planning work that involves critical gaskets (and doing that now for a cylinder head removal on an Audi), I usually go to RockAuto and purchase Fel-Pro (1st choice) or Victor Reinz gaskets. This has worked out really well for over a decade.
1998 Acura SLX. OME 929s and front crank, KYB tubes. Retro'd Aisin manual front hubs.
Home rebuilt 4L30E doing great. Aux cooler and temp gauge. Big thanks on the rebuild to Buster28, Jerry (jlemond), CalG, and others.
Factory(US dealer) side steps and roof/ski rack (Yakima).

Thanks I will definitely go check out rock Auto for sure. I always like having options.

Hey @buster28 are there any repair tips you can give to me so that I may relay that information back to my mechanic? Luckily we are on good terms in regards to social disposition. He really likes me as a customer especially because I bring in every part down to the gaskets or even snake clamp lol. He told me my Isuzu is also a learning process for him and his team. So any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

update*Well I had to get onto the acura oem parts website and also isuzu parts center through the KIA dealership, and last but not least Autozone I gathered all of the required things for the repair.
I haven't purchased the Transmission fluid, do you also suggest a certain brand type of Transmission fluid for this 4l30e? and also how much will I need? Thanks! My total for all 9 parts came out to $160.00 so all in all not that bad.

Remove the 22mm nut threaded onto EGR valve casting before the removing the intake manifold bolts, the nut is very tight.
Hand thread the 22mm nut back onto the EGR valve casting before tightening the intake manifold bolts when reinstalling the manifold to prevent cross-threading.
Clean/remove the carbon in the pipe running from the EGR valve casting to the front of the intake manifold.
Inspect the EGR valve pintle for carbon buildup
Check for loose or missing screws on the 6 intake manifold induction valves.

Castrol Transmax Import Multi-Vehicle Automatic Transmission fluid meets the GM Dexron III H
spec. About 8 quarts if you change the filter.

Hey thanks Buster. Also one last thing, hopefully the guys at the shop don't kill me. I located something called the accumaltor piston/plug that also seems to be leaking. It looks really easy to replace can you recommend me a part number and o ring for that? Thanks again.

The 3-4 accumulator piston cover is a common source of a hydraulic leak. The 3-4 accumulator cover is about 1 1/2 inch in diameter and is located on the right side of the transmission case. The cover is held in place with a C clip, there is a big spring on the reverse side of the cover, slightly depress the cover to release the tension before trying to remove the C clip.

The Isuzu/Honda part number for a replacement 3-4 accumulator piston cover is 8-96017-093-0. The GM number is 96017093.

I ordered a set from Jerry. Unsure about the C clip though, do you know of a part number for that or should be okay to reuse?

You should be able to reuse the C clip.

This is a list of all the 3-4 Accumulator parts :
