i am a cheap bastard, i know - but they're expensive!
what is the minimum amount of pull (Lbs) that i get away with in a winch for a 99 rodeo?

8000lb minimum. I've had one Harbor Freight winch and now a Warn. I think that the $100 premium for the Warn was well worth it. I'd had the HF winch fixed twice and gave up the third time that it broke.

I saw a video by Bill Burke and he had suggested that the winch should be able to pull one and a half the weight of the vehicle.

In my case my Trooper weighs about 4,800 pounds. 4,800 * 1.5 = 7,200.

So going by that an 8,000 winch should be good for the trooper. A 9,000-pound will be better.

Has anyone tried a MileMarker winch? The 9,000-pound is only $449.00.

I use a mechenical winch on my Nissan, so it's has 150Hp and 216Nm!

My Dad has the MM9000 on his truck. He's been very happy w/ his purchase. It seems pretty solid. I prefer teh controls of the warn better. Also, the motors that warn switched to a couple of years ago are much improved.

You can't go wrong with a hand winch.....with at least 1.6t lifting capacity. Plenty of hard work but always reliable. The hand winch with 1.6t lifting capicity is more than capabile because the hand winch were developed in the riggging industry, so their safety factor is like 3 times thier rated capacity.
