it would take lotsa money and time. i'd love to do the same to my '88 trooper though, so i can feel your pain. for some reason, nobody has ever given me a straight answer...always "use the search feature".
here's what it would take, as far as i know:
1) custom fabbed motor mounts
2) the tranny from the same donor vehicle, or at least one from an 89-91 trooper with the 2.8 GM v-6 (apparently, the back of the block has two sets of bolt holes and this tranny will match up to it...nothing else will match up to your existing tranny, except for the 2.3)
3) computer and wiring harness for new engine
4) custom fabbed crossmember(s) (?)
i'm sure there is much more to it than that, but it's not impossible. it's just a matter of how much time/money to you have vs. the ease of buying a newer ride.
