My transfer case was leaking oil through the rear seal and didn't notice it until I heard something burst inside while I was driving. For good fortune damage wasn't too big, just T-case input shaft needle bearing blew away. All the other components, gears and ball bearings are fine but the brass ring that goes on the input gear in where the inner lubrication channels are almost erased. Would be an issue if I just polish the inner side with thin sandpaper to make it spin softly on the input shaft and then put it back?? Transmission is a 1991 MUA synchronized T-case with Teralow gears installed.

Thanks

I tossed that brass ring when I did my Tera install on my 88 Trooper.

I'm going to stop if shifting to 4low or from 4low.

Joe, I'm talking about the input gear synchro, not the one that goes with the hub. Are you sure is ok to remove it ??

Below the item i'm talking about.....

From the diagram at the end of the pdf linked below, it seems to be possible to rid off the 2 synchros plus the spring.
