My 1989 Trooper 2.8 V6 has been having idle issues(high RPM- rough when RPM is about normal) I was checking cable, linkage and such when I noticed the gasket was missing between air filter housing and top of TBI. I put a new gasket in and tightened the air cleaner down. Idle issues have all but went away, not sure if I understand what that did but some times you get lucky.DAVE

Forgive me - I'm getting senile - but does this engine use a MAF?

That not all the air was going through a MAF might be the answer.

Gawd! Don't get old.

No MAF but it may have some air flow sensor in it. I am not really up to speed on this engine set up. We just bought this one about a month ago and I am still working out the bugs and learning the ins and outs. I just hope the idle issue doesn't return. Dave

No there is no type of air flow or air temp sensor on the vehicle. You may have reattached a loose vacuum line for the thermal valve on the air cleaner.
