Hello !
I live in France and I used to drive my Opel Frontera, the name in France of the Isuzu Rodéo.
I'm the moderator of the forum of 4x4fr.com, only of OPEL(ISUZU) topics.
We've got other engine in our 4x4 :
Many Frontera are with Diesel engine cause the price of gasoline ( more than 1 euro/litre).
So we've got four engines :
- 2,3 turbo diesel (old version)
- 2,5 turbo diesel of VM, italian engine's firm,
- 2,8 turbo direct injection diesel (another old engine),
- 2,2 16V turbo diesel.
Only gasoline motor, a 3,2 litre V6.
I'm looking for informations of technical problems during the life of your 4x4.
I want to make a historical list of the rare default, and answers to rapair too.
Thank for it and escuse my poor english, I only learn it on school and my years of school were long time ago. :D
But if you want to answer in French, you welcome :D

Welcome to the forum. Don't worry, most of us have poor English too.....As long as you aren't Zippo, nobody will give you any flack for it.

To answer your question, I'd say for our US 3.2 gas 3.2, we can list a few issues.

First things things that comes to mind are as follows: the oil consumption issue, the tic tic tic of the lifters, the knocking of the timing belt tensioner, vacuum for engaging 4wd not working, the occasional fuel pump failure, the occasional transmission failure and all of us in the salt belt's favorite, frame rot.

Oh, and the little light covers on the interior of my doors falling off......

How about it, anybody else?

Bienvenue!

On the 2nd Gen Rodeos some issues I have had are:

Faulty fuel gauge sender
Wiper relays going bad
Starter contacts needing to be replaced

Other than that and the oil consumption previously noted with the gasoline 3.2, my truck has been very dependable.

Luckily I havent been plagued by most of the common issues with 2nd gen rodeos, just the fuel gauge sender and wiper relays.

Other failures that werent mentioned are cracking intake manifold gaskets (mostly '98/99 but some newer ones also) and cracked heads on '98. These are both on the 3.2 DOHC engines.

Problems I've seen with 1st gen 3.2 SOHC are the ticking lifters as mentioned (caused either from stuck hydraulic dampers or scored rockers), and coolant leaks from the piping under the intake manifold (usually just from age).

Doesnt surprise me there werent many answers from 4x4wire, that board is about dead as far as the isuzu section.

Salut!

(Ps I have no idea if what I just said makes any sense. My spoken french is horrible, my written is even worse!)

That post is from 2003
His Opel has probably rusted to dust by now

Jeremy has apparently gotten an archeology grant to dig up old posts.
