Marcus, I assume you are there already?
Sad but I hear you can complain and they'll rotate that guy out of there.
Sorry to target anyone but you can't treat people that way.

Well in true Marino fashion, we are just now leaving Richmond. ETA 6-6:30

Oh yeah... And the brakes on the trailer quit working.

Awesome...

All set up at Group Site C. Only ones here currently. We made it down, but noticed something didn't feel right on the last stretch. As we pulled into the outpost I smelled trouble... Fire!! I toasted the passenger side rear wheel bearing on the trailer. We fueled up, got trail pass and limped it over to camp.

I'll mess with it in the morning.

Come on by if you are down here!

Just a heads up. We have 5 dogs running loose in camp. 3 puppies and 2 older dogs.

It's a hoot.

So I was hoping to button up the samurai and tow it this trip, but I just couldn't get the tcase mounted in the new cradle, it just kicked my butt. Argh. So last minute I load up the trooper and I head out. As soon as it's at operating temp it's got a stumble at idle. When I get up to speed I've got some sputtering and hesitation especially at part throttle. Not to mention the vibration from the rear that kicks in at 55mph and only gets worse.

So halfway to the outpost I make a decision to call it and head back home. Not worth the risk that it gets worse on the trail or on the way home. If I can make it happen, I'll drive down this afternoon just to hang with everyone and camp out.

Had a great time as usual. Good to see some old friends and meet some new faces.
Sorry to hear about the deer Marcus. Hope you get back a-okay.
We're definitely gonna book Group camp again. Was quieter, little to no traffic or noise (except us of course).
Van, missed you out there but I tell you what, we'll keep the tradition going as long as we can.
I know you and Jerry both mentioned this may be your last up here. I understand.
We'll make some plans for group camp C again towards the fall and see where everyone lands.
Thanks again Mile for dinner and Nate for Friday dinner.
If everyone pitches in, we can totally plan this out where we just group cook and pack sammiches for the trails.
Seems to be efficient this time even though we're unofficially not an organized "group". We actually do better than some big events I've gone to.
Anyhow, I don't have many pictures but here's one of the dumb o'clock hour.

Hey Guys,
Great time as always. Unfortunately, shortly after we left arrowhead on route 49 disaster struck. A herd of deer that were spooked came out of nowhere and trashed everything. Severe damage to Greenie, the Chevy 3500 and our camper. :( I think Greenie is totaled. The Chevy will likely need a whole new bed and the back door will have to be repaired. The camper, Some of the aluminum frame is bent. The fiberglass and front door are toast. If the frame can't be fixed or the side wall is affected it could be a total lose too. And yes, that is deer crap on the front of the camper. There was also some deer guts on the back of the truck too.

Mike and Leland. Please PM me your address so I can send you the money I promised. I missed both of you before we left. Want to get that out to as soon as possible. :)

Well, we all seemed to suffer carnage of some form or fashion. Our trip home was uneventful thankfully. My ears are still ringing from 5 hrs of mud tire drone at 65 mph. Add to that the rear springs on the Trooper are shot. I basically was riding the bump stops the whole way home. Kylie got a crash course in how to tow a trailer, and she did great.

Smitty's Trooper (we are naming it that also) will be getting new lift coil springs in the rear, and shocks all the way around. First chance I get I will be tearing down the front end and swapping out that welded front carrier to be replaced with an open front carrier. Maybe down the road I'll try and find an Aussie Locker or an ARB if I hit the lottery. I'm thinking I need to install the catalytic converters that were stolen out of it. Hopefully that will help it run cleaner. Also would like to replace the speed sensors that have been cut out on the front end.

We are hoping to make these repairs pretty soon so we can get a few more wheeling trips in this summer. It was great catching up with old friends and making some new ones! I think the group camp worked great, was quiet aside from us, and we had no trouble from over enthusiastic camp hosts. There is space at site C for everyone, and even room for a few camper trailers even as big as Marcus's if desired. The bathhouse was fine (use the shower on the end for the most balanced temp). I will be glad to bring my quiet generator for group use once again, and have two other quiet generators I can bring. A 3000 watt inverter generator, and a 5500 watt water cooled Honda that I use for backup power at my house. Both are just as quiet as my EU2000 that I brought this trip. I would love to get the whole group in one place again. With the camp Nazis over at Arrowhead, I feel this is a great place to begin using for the whole group. Once we set a date for the fall trip, I will be glad to book it again.

Looking forward to the next one!

Hey Guys,
Here is part 1 of our trip to Uwharrie. Not much wheeling in this one but some. Wish we would have gotten more out of truck shots. :( Van is a master at these.
