that looks like some kind of shaft reinforcement, but what i really like it is those vent guards, now i feel like doing more stuff to my trooper, lots of ideas in those pics.

Yeah, after a close look, I think they are tie rod renforcements...

That lower skin looks like a cleaver use of the plastic diamond plate stick stuff you can buy on line but I've never seen it in sheets that big. Marine floor covering maybe? I like it!
