87 2.3l California car with all the smog jazz
recently the float got stuck at a light and the engine ran away lol fun times
replaced it with a "rebuild" from auto zone and runs terrible now idle bounces and I lost fast idle at startup ??

and ideas im starting to loose my mind

The carburetor needs to adjusted correctly.

"Float got stuck and engine ran away" ?????? Can you explain this better? Usually, when a float sticks, you get black smoke and the engine floods.
I agree with Shawn, you may need carb and throttle linkage adjustments.

Shawn Dennis thanks is there any breakdown on adjusting that specific carb? it seems hard to find any docs on that hitachi DFP384-205 assuming that's correct

I would check the factory service manual for an 86 or 87 with the 2.3, it should have some instructions. Service amanuals can be found online or purchased online

If you still have your old carb, i would compare it to the replacement. I used to work in the auto parts business and when it came to rebuilt parts, most were sub quality. It was also common practice to have one part listed for a wide range of vehicles where there were multiple differences from the factory. Might be better to send your original carb off to be rebuilt.
