I am in the middle of redoing the rear brake rotors and pad as well as shackles and shocks on my 97 rodeo. We just got finished with the front and we repacked the bearings in the front. I was just wondering if this is needed in the back as well. I know that you should repack the front every 30k or so. What about the rear. I know it will be a real PITA because of the parking brake so I dont want to if I dont need to, but while I am there if is has to be done then I guess I must. No leaking fluid anywhere in the back FYI. The truck has 170k on it.

Thanks

No. they're totally different than the front. Sounds like the seals are good with no leakage observed. You can change the dope if you want and check to make sure the vent on top of the chunk housing is clean and clear of foreign matter. If the vent gets clogged, you will likely have leaks at the seals.
