I need you isuzu experts advice - I'm contemplating doing a conversion with a 1999 Isuzu Amigo 2WD to a 4WD. It would be on an excellent 1999 V6 3.2 4x2 Automatic that I really like except that I want to convert it to a 4x4. Is this just a matter of a new front axle, transfer case, drive shaft, and linkage? Or should I just leave this alone and buy a 4x4. I can get a great deal on the Amigo but I will need a 4x4 eventually this winter and have maybe better than average mechanical skills? so is there any reason I should avoid this undertaking?? Has anyone else done this out there and should I go ahead and lift it while I have it apart. I would really appreciate your opinions. [email protected]

With enough time, creativity and $$$$ anything is possible!! Converting your 1999 from 2wd to a 4x4 in stock form would require a complete replacement of the front drivetrain, powertrain computer(s), suspension modifications, complete wiring harness replacement, as well as tons of cosmetics & other odds & ends. You'd be better off putting your 1999 body on top of a fully functioning 4x4 chassis. In other words.. KEEP YOUR 4X2!!! you still have an awesome truck!! Put some quality snow tires on it for the winter & get yourself 4-5 "tube-sand's" (70lb nylon sand bags) from home depot, lowes, etc.. Not a bad idea to keep a tow strap in the back & get yourself some of those temporary strap on tire chains in case you get stuck. You'll be fine!
G/luck
