I don't have a problem with ad-supported services in principle. But when an ad shifts position and size while loading, it's bound to get clicked in error. That is, I'm trying to select the first unread topic, and suddenly an ad moves under my finger/cursor and gets clicked. That is either intentional (to deceptively get clicks), or ignorant of basic html/css design. Ethical design has a "size" property that's "reserved" before the image loads, so that it doesn't shift while loading.

If we all used Brave, or ad blockers, there would be no ad revenue. The forum could not continue as a commercial endeavor without some ad revenue. Maybe that would be bad, maybe not. ;)
But wait, are you getting ads on this site, while logged in?

I'm even semi-happy with the forum software, although ads take up way too much of my screen...
It's funny, I didn't even know this site had ads ... I've had my ad-blocker auto-enabled for years. Didn't even come to mind.

^ditto to what cmf5 said... I just turned my ad blocker off for the first time in years and I don't know how y'all put up with this -- it's like times square!

Yes, like crazy. But I'm not a "Premium member". I'm just an ordinary contributing member.
From my understanding of what was stated initially, logged in users should not be being served ads. What gives @AG_Admin ?

This amount of ads, while annoying, is nothing compared to backyardchickens.com!

I'm glad that the website survived. I've also been a part of discussion forums where the site was turned over to a member, but due to them being a total boob, the site declined anyway. It's sad either way it happens.

The original question has been answered, closing this one down as it has gone off-topic.

Jeff
So now you moderate, just because there is criticism? I asked a specific question a few posts back that remains unanswered.

Can we just install free adblockers and move on? I'm thankful for the site and its hosting, how it was in the past notwithstanding. I don't see any light at the end of this tunnel of back-and-forth.

I think we're all thankful that the site is still in operation, that's not the point. The point is that users, who were told when AG took over that they would not be seeing invasive ads, are being served just that.

That is certainly a valid complaint, but it is obviously not going to change despite who said what. It's easy enough to install a free adblocker if you so desire and everyone sorta wins that way

That post is over 7 years old.
That's not at all possible, AG_Admin was not here 7 years ago. The time and date have to be wrong.

But that wasn't my post, it's from @MarkB.NV.

I think he was referring to my complaint (not question) that ads resize and/or move as the page loads. That's bad software, whether deliberate or not.
