I have seen many ads for "20 hp" chips and resistors, has anyone used them on their vehicles? I was wondering if anyone had used them with any success, or if they are just bull poop? I gave up on trying everything to improve fuel economy, and as looking at this as a possibility. Any ideas or recommendations?
Power chips...anyone use them???

I had figured so, some kind of resistor and air intake thingy, cheap for 10 bucks, and of course another 10 bucks shipping, I wonder if these ebay retailers think we got this scam figured out! But I have heard of actual 'chips' used by big manufacturers that have improved power thru timing advancement and such, so still wondering if anyone else has used something 'power mod' related.

Hello. For the record, I wouldn't buy any electronic parts off of ebay. Nada, nothing, zip. There is no way to check these things and the seller can simply claim you installed the component incorrectly and ruined it, leaving you with no recourse.
There are chips available that basically alter inputs to the ECM for a different performance. I would not recommend ANYONE without proper training/knowledge and tools to make these changes. If you are interested in gaining performance, go to a qualified performance shop who is familiar with your vehicle. Although the expense may be great at first, these shops have usually tried every aftermarket component and steer you away from the components that don't work, hence saving you money in the long run. I hate to admit it, but the best shops are still in CA, although I'm sure there is at least someone in every state who could help you. Good luck.

The chips on Ebay are ****. Without doing other things (air filter, exhaust, etc.) you probably won't notice even using a chip made for your car. If you find someone making them FOR Isuzu's lemme know.
As far as the install, it's easy. Just pop out the old chip and stick the new one in. Done a few in other cars w/o a hitch.
btw- With the above mods and the chip a noticable improvement is had. The only drawback is you need to run premium fuel ALL the time, or you'll knock like crazy.

Howdy. Look guys, these are scams. Like the old saying goes, if it's too good to be true, it probably is. I am suspect of any $20 item that will improve performance. Furthermore, I'm not an engineer and I don't think many of you out there are. Isuzu probably made 20 different prototypes and put them through the paces before ever letting the public get their hands on them.
Also, just because you "feel" the difference doesn't necessarily mean this is good for your vehicle. 2eye can probably tell you, but in my own experience these "upgrades" also usually VOID YOUR WARRANTY. If you do want to improve your performance, go to a pro shop. A good shop will have access to a dyno and can test your vehicle and make the proper adjustments. So again, if you don't have the "skills to pay the bills" just stay away from these so called upgrades.

I knew someone who added a chip to their Cosworth and uprated it. It damn near killed the car. If you want better performance, my suggestion would be to do it the old fashioned way and buy the seperate parts then add them. You can do a great deal with a couple of additions. I feel in the long run it will probably be a great deal cheaper, and you know EXACTLY what you've done.

Just my .02. If you want supreme performance, buy a Lamborghini. Wait, oh, that would set you back $250 g's. Never mind......my bad..... 
I am no longer looking for a quick fix, meaning a 10 dollar solution to my so-called 'problem' with fuel economy. My Trooper has plenty of power, all I noticed is that the rpm at say...60 mph is around 2300 rpm, and compared to an american made vehicle, which is around 1200-1500 rpm or so, is higher, and thus consuming more fuel. I think that if the Isuzu engineers were to put a 5th, or 6th gear into the automatic, they would have the fuel economy solution right there! But this of course mean a total redesign and major re-manufacturing of the vehicle, making them high on the fuel economists lists, but puts their corporate income in the hole, so to speak. I am not sure what Isuzu has done with their new Ascender, but I do like the looks of my Trooper vs. the new Ascender. The Axiom 'looks' like the replacement of the Trooper, and of course it is more stylish and 'future looking' than the trooper, and of course has the same 'ol 3.5 litre engine, which I have found is being manufactured for a whole pile of import trucks, and SUV's. So there is my 2 cents on the fuel economy improvements for the Trooper. My buddy just picked up his new Toyota Highlander, which he 'says' is getting 30 mpg highway, but I can't believe that just yet. But if thats the case, so be it. I am only a new Isuzu owner, and am still keeping my eyes open for the absolute ultimate SUV for my driving style, and utilitarian usage. For now, its setting up a wicked sound system, there is so much room in the back for subwoofers, Yeehaa! But thats a whole different animal for me. Now that was just my 3 cents....... for now.
