I'm a little concerned about the passenger front cylinder of my 97 3.2. Whenever I pull the sparkplug there's oil on the threads but not on the electrode portion of the plug. Could this be a leaking piston ring? If so, how does oil get on the threads of the plug and not on the electrode?

The way your valve cover is made you have a hole where your spark plug goes through the valve cover and into the head. There is a gasket between the head and the valve cover that can leak and let oil get into the plug hole.

Nothing to really worry about unless it's in excess. It's quite a lot of work to change the valve cover gaskets.

Thanks, Sounds like a pretty gay design to me. There was less oil this last time I checked. There's just enough to coat the threads (free anti-seize!).

Honda, Toyota, Isuzu...Well just about all overhead cam engines are designed this way. Just time for a valve cover gasket change.
