Ok I just finished installing a new head everything is working fine.Is there a proper break-in procedure and what about retorqueing the head bolts do I need to break the head bolts loose first then retorque???? :?

My AMC head suggested something like a 50 mile then 200 mile interval for when to re-torque the head bolts and adjust the valves.

Maybe someone else has more info.

Yes, you do break them loose before retorquing, to get an accurate torque reading. When I retorqued the head bolts on my Spacecab 2.6, there was quite a change in bolt tension.

Break-loose-and-retorque only one bolt at a time; and torque in the standard pattern, starting from the center of the head and working outwards.

I re-torque mine at 1000 miles, I guess doing it twice wouldn't hurt.

I just did mine about 6000 miles after the new head.. I figured better late than never.

I reinstalled my original head when I rebuilt my bottom end, there was no evidence of water in the oil when I disassembled it. I used the Rock import head gasket that came with my kit. When I retorqued the bolts after 100 miles, I noticed I got another 1/8 to 1/4 turn.

Me too. Should start doing it more often I guess.
