I pulled some parts off an 87 Trooper that had the 2.3 in it. The head is odd, and I don't see a casting number on it, just a weird symbol. There is the shape of an apple stamped on it and in two places it says "NEW"
I am trying to determine if this is a keeper or if it will serve only as a core.

Its a standard aftermarket replacement head. If its not cracked & its not warped beyond specifications its perfectly ok for reuse.

Right on, thanks. The apple threw me off. I thought it might be some oddball head. Good to have a spare.

It shows a heat sensor on the rear, a sign that it is remanufactured. If the sensor is good, you may be good to go. I would use a straightedge to check it. Dennis
