I have an 02 Rodeo Sport. I have an ARB locker in the front end, I would like to know what the biggest tire that will fit a stock Sport. I am also considering a Calmini 3" lift. If fender trimming is neccessary, is it major and will the stock fender flares cover it? I have also seen fiberglass flared replacement fenders for the Amigo. Any one know where to get them. Any information will be appreciated. :?:

Without a lift, your largest tire will be a 265/70-16, this yeilds NO rub.

With a little friendly persuasion of a BFH, you can fit a 265/75-16. This is with or without the lift. The part you have to "mod" is the inner wheel well at the drivers left foot, you have to tap it up and in a little bit...and then you can shape the wheelwell liner with a hair dryer. I am running this size now and truly only had to push the wheel well back about 1/2 inch. (it's the body crease/weld that gets in the way. Sorry, but i don't have a pic here. If you get this size tire mounted, turn half way to the lock on the left side and see where the corner of the tire is going to hit.

what about on a stock '93 Trooper 4-door? I already have 265/75-16 AT's but I'd like to get something larger. Without a lift or major modifications, would a taller tire... perhaps a 285/75-16 fit without rubbing?

I have the 3" lift on my 99 amigo and put taller tires on instead of wider. Though i did need to take out the mud flaps as they were rubbing on hard cornering. Aside from that there is plenty of clearance, even for wider tires if i want to upgrade. As a side note the lift is awesome and makes the amigo look much more aggressive. Definitely get the manual hubs for both cv joint life and it helps the handling immensely. The steering has been much lighter since the instalation.

245/75/16, I was going to go with with same size as you but had deep personal onflicts about cutting something i still owe money on. If i had to do it again i would go with the wider tires and cut the wheel well.

Toddz, a 285/75/16 tire is both taller and wider than a 265/75/16.

285/75/16s fit my '95 trooper without any rubbing during street driving. Never took off road w/o a lift though.

285=285mm across the top of the tire.
75=75mm from the ground to the wheel.
16=16inches wheel height.

75 isn't the height in mm from the wheel to the ground (sidewall), it is the percentage of the tread width that makes up the sidewall height. a 75 series tire has a sidewall that is 75% of the tread width.

The actual sidewall height of a 285/75/16 tire is about 8.4 inches (~214mm) giving it a diameter of 32.8" tire, whereas by your method a 285/75/16 is a 22" tire.

I have a 98 Amigo and I'm running 285/75 16's right now and I get rubbing when I turn with out even hitting a bump. On Monday I'm taking it in to an autobody place in town and for $80 a side they are going to push the whole tire well back to eliminate any rubbing. They are also going to use a heat gun and bend the stock fender flares so that it doesn't look ghetto and retains a stock look. After the modifications are done then they are going to put some paint so that there isn't going to be a problem with rusting in the future.

Rubbing would also depend if you have aftermarket wheels with a different offset. On mine right now I'm still using the stock rims but I'm having the fender well cut enough so that I can run a different offset rim. I also have a 3" lift. Hope that helps.

I had a problem with the size of the tire being too high and it rubbing inside the tire well. I believe a 265/75/16 is the biggest you can fit in an amigo or rodeo with stock tires and not having a lift. You will still experience some minor rubbing though during cornering.

285/75/16 requires at least a 3" lift and some trimming in the tire well. This is also using the stock 16" rims.

My question would be if it's possible to fit a 315/75/16 tire and if anyone has done that. I would guess that it would take a 16 X 10 rim and would require some major trimming on the fender and tire well and possibly a body lift.

I checked into getting wheel spacers but that would require even more fender trimming than what I have planned for right now.
