Today I bought Niva again. Some time ago I said to myself, never buy Niva again! But ... winter is coming, there's nothing better Niva on an icy road and snow.

I like pickup trucks. It will be a long project.

Engine 1.7l, petrol engine, full time transmission with low range and differential lock.
27-inch wheels.

Body in poor condition, needs paint or vinyl.

Help me God! :D

Yes.The plant uses the cheapest ink and poor iron for the body.
+ The former owner did not care about the condition of the car.

That is actually kind of a cool looking little truck/car. I like how it is a 2 door sedan body with a tiny truck bed. Could you swap any other engines into it?

No. Niva can be 1.7 or 1.8 petrol engine, 80 hp. 25MPG.
There is no reason to change.

I understand that those are the engine they came with. What I am wondering is if anybody else has swapped in something bigger, like a V6 or larger 4 cylinder engine into one.

There is a vidoe on russaienglish.com of two guys in scube gear taken a niva into a loch in russia it had an extende snorkel . They drove into the loch till it was complely sunk drove about then back out dont why but it looked good.
Any way nivas they are not bad wee motors come in some right weird colours alot of the ladas were snapped up by russians an ferried back to the mother land those that were ****ey were dumped over board mid trip which is a good thing as they were ugly uselss things.
There was a few people who put v8s in them i will try find a link to the thread i rember reading once

Wow, hard to believe that's a 2001. Looks more like late 60's or early 70's. Is it built in Russia?

I think that is what they modeled the Honda Ridgeline after...

Lada Niva has a few models.
Short 3dr (Classics 2121; 21 213, 21 214) Design of this car was created in the '70s.

Medium 3dr Niva Fora 21218 (300 mm longer)

Long 5dr Lada Niva 2131 (500 mm longer)

Niva Pickup 2329. You are know what I mean :D

Chevrolet Niva 2123

Yes, this was made in Russia.

More powerful engine is not installed in the Niva for several reasons.
It is technically difficult.
We have a high tax on motor power.
We have expensive gasoline.
This is prohibited by law (the first - the engine installation, the second - to try to register it, it's long and expensive)

Therefore, we're modify the engine as it is and transmission to more power.

Realistically, I know: only Niva and UAZ. Other Russian cars - does not deserve attention.

I owned a UAZ truck and jeep when I lived in Nicaragua. Very tough but very basic vehicles
