Hi, I need some advice...
I have a 1998 Trooper, and have been told by one repair shop that it going to "throw a rod, " and that I'll have to put a new engine in it...
A different place said the whole engine doesn't need to be replaced, the faulty parts can just be fixed.
I have priced engines and they are very expensive! The quotes I have gotten are ranging from 2200-5000 dollars.
I was also told that the best and most cost effective way to do this would be to replace the isuzu engine with a Chevy engine.
Can anyone offer advice here?
It's much appreciated

Pre 1998 isuzu 3.2's often give off a horrible "rod knock" kind of noise when the timing belt tensioners go bad. Many shops mistake that for an engine that's about to "throw a rod". Whats your engine's symptoms?? I've not yet heard of a 3.5 doing the tensioner knock thing, but you never know. It's a LOT cheaper than a new engine!
G/luck
