How to remove wheel studs?

2133 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  COTrooper
I have a broken rear wheel stud on the back of my '91 Trooper. I've removed the caliper, pads, and mounting bracket, but can't figure out how to remove the stud. The disc behind the rear hub assembly (dust shield of some sort?) gets in the way. How do I remove that cover (and whatever else I need to move) in order to replace the wheel stud?

I've replaced the studs on the back of my 88 and 89 Troopers without removing that plate. I was able to hammer out the old studs, and the new ones went in when put in at an angle. I believe that I did have to turn the axle shaft so that the studs went in from where the caliper mounts, but I know that I didn't remove the brake dust shield or axle shaft.
