This would be a big project for a person whose experience was limited to changing oil, etc. There's a lot that has to come off in order to get to the water pump, including the timing belt and a lot of what's in front of it.
If you're going to do this, buy the Haynes repair manual before you start. It has better photos than the Chiltons book.
