Hi, new here, I have a 2000 Trooper 3.5L. It started making a electronic sounding high pitch noise from the engine compartment a few days ago. It sounds like its coming from the throttle body, so I unplugged it while running and the noise stopped. I did a search and came up with nothing.

Maybe a vac leak?

I swapped out the throttle body with a known good one and its still making the noise. I went over everything again looking for vac leaks and found nothing. I also removed the serpantine belt to see if it was a pully or accessory bushing but it still made the noise? Any other ideas?

I have no clue. I would say a vacuum leak from somewhere. What do you mean you unplugged the TB while it was running and the noise stopped. What did you unplug? I didn't even think it would continue to run if it was unplugged.

Could it be a bad gasket between the TB and manifold?

I unplugged the wire connector that controls the TB and the noise stopped, it did send the computer into "Reduced Power" mode until I restarted the engine. I checked and changed the gasket too with no luck.

I haven't had the throttle body off of an Isuzu, but the GM ones (on alot of the Vortec trucks, 4.3/5.7 etc) have a little "scoop" on the back of the throttle blade that is riveted in. I don't remember the exact reasoning for the "scoop", but if one of those rivets came out or is leaking, that would cause the noise (did on my buddies), but wouldn't explain why it stopped when you unplugged it.

wow ya the noise I was thinking of is WAY different. That's weird. Only thing I can think of is a bad signal or something through the engine computer to the throttle body making the throttle controls squeel? Just throwing something out there because I have no freaking clue lol

Thanks for your input on this problem. They noise obviously has me scratching my head which is why I posted the video because it is such an odd sound. Hopefully I figure it out soon before the wife wants a new car! If I figure it out I will updated with some answers.

Do you have anyone near you that has the same truck? If so I would say swap ECM's and see if it changes it (I know it's drastic but just a shot in the dark)

here is a thought that i just had...... a friends ford escort did something almost exactly like this..... turns out that one of the wires that runs to the TPS on the throttle body was loose in one of the connectors..... it wasn't getting proper ground and it made an almost identical sound! something to think about...

That's a good lead. There is a 2000 trooper at a nearby pick and pull junk yard, I can probably get another plug for a few bucks.
