The Haynes manual says the "preferred" oil is 5W30, the little glove box owners handbook says 10W30 (for temps above 0*F).
Who to believe? What's your preferred oil?

AllData says:
All ambient temperatures ---- 5W-30
Above 0*F ---- 10W-30
Above 10*F ---- 15W-40 or 20W-50
Above 40*F ---- straight 30

I use 10w-30 Mobil 1, I mite use something heaver but the 6 pack of Mobil 1 10w-30 from Costco is a good deal.

these engines will operate on any weight as long as you are within the usable temperature range.

when using synthetics, the "W" rating is less important, as all synthetics will perform better at lower temps than regular dino oil.

both 5W-30 and 10W30 will behave almost exactly the same when at operating temp, the difference- comes into play at startup. during winter, a 0W30 would actually be ideal. for hot summers with no cold nights, (depending on where you live) you don't even need the "W" rating.

In Michigan, I would use 5W-30.
