HELP My 1997 Rodeo's 4x4 Won't Engage

Hello, I'm new here and have a question:
I have a 1997 Rodeo and in the past I saw that the 4x4 would engage after a small pause, then it became longer and longer, and now it does not engage at all. Please if anyone can help me with this I would appreciate it greatly.
