Hi so I have a problem that started yesterday and got worse today.

Yesturday as I was driving the car hesatated a few times on the highway and the lights in the picture came on. It did it a few times but then the lights went off and I was able to continue my 50 mile drive. Today the same thing happened agan but the car turned off. I pulled over and it would not start. Felt like ignition as no spuddering. After about 5 minutes it started again and I was able to drive for different amounts of times 5 min - 15 minutes. I managed to make it home and I cant recreate the problem unless I drive and it happens at random times. Also does not always completly turn off. Ive tried to move the wires in the engine bay and cant replicate the problem. A couple of times its happened without even driving and the car just turns off.

I dont have any codes using Torque and no check engine light.

I have read something about the Cruise control wire but I am not sure where the PCM is on this car. I see a possible one under the hood passanger side but a lot of texts say its under the stereo

Please help if anyone has any insight in this issue. ITs my daily driver.

Check to see if your alternator is charging the battrey. If you have a meter, you should see 13.5-14.5 volts at the battery while the vehicle is running.

yup its charging.

Just drove it in the neighborhood, the only way to recreate the problem is high throttle. lights came on and it turned off had to wait 2 minutes and I was able to start it. So weird. No spike in voltage while driving. Steady 13.5v

Took it out again drove 20 miles at first no issues then lights came on again but didnt turn off. As I reved high RPMs the lights came on, managed to shift to neutral and no effect stayed on then they as usual turn off. Sometimes high RPMs seem to make it happen but not all the time as in freeway driving RPMs are constant. No bumps seem to cause it. Im so stumpt on this. I was thinking maybe the electronic TPS maybe I unplugged it, Low power came on but not the trans or other lights. Had to restart and clear codes to get rid of the low power state. Seems like a common wire or switch maybe that activates the cruise, check trans, gas, and low power is faulty. While the low power light comes on I dont feel that there is less power. I do feel a thump in the trans for a bit.

Anyone have any ideas?

I hate mystery problems. I ordered an alternator from Amazon as there arnt many locally. Is it possible for an alternator to be bad but still charging?

Just this week the alternator on my van went out. When the battery light first illuminated, I tested the battery and while running, I was getting 14.5v at the battery, indicating that the alternator was doing okay. I cleaned the corrosion off the posts, started it up, and the light went away. The next morning it came back on again. I drove up to to Cheyenne for work, sat in my van all day charging stuff and draining the battery. Then on the way home, once the voltage dropped enough, lights started coming on and the trans decided it only wanted to be in 2nd gear.
So I guess the point was that at first it tested okay, then the next day quit.

I would check all of the grounds you can find. How are your motor mounts? Is it possible that at high RPM the motor twists enough to loosen a ground?

PCM is under the radio/CD changer and you pull the shifter console piece for access FWIW. I'd start by checking all your grounds, specifically the two going to the battery. Just take them off an clean them up really good, the same for the battery. Also, pull the alternator and see what's wrong with it, they aren't bad to diagnose on a bench.

doubtful on the motormounts. Engine seems solid and it happens at a steady pace and no bumps sometimes. Someone said that their alternator diods were leaking AC so I ordered an alternator to see if that fixes the problem. I plan to clean the grounds maybe a bit but not much else I can do unless someone has had similar issues.

I dont know how to diagnose on a bench. I will clean the grounds.

Are you sure about the PCM location? I see a computer looking thing under the hood pass side. I took the center consol and didnt see anything resembling a computer. this is a 2001 Trooper.

Oh the '01 is drive by wire, so the PCM is where the cruise control should be, meaning the passenger side of the engine bay by the firewall-- you are right

REplaced the alternator and same issues. Only time I am able to replicate this is sometimes when I rev to 4-5k but its not all the time.
