Hey all, I'm doing an ls2 swap in a gen1 trooper and am having some oil pan front axle clearance issues. For those who have done an sas swap, did that increase the clearance to the bottom of your engine, and if so, by how much?

A SAS will provide more than enough space for the stock oil pan however, it's more work and more cost. You must fabricate all the suspension components, steering components, supply the axles and replace all your rims and tires. The altenitive is to simply reshape your oil pan to clear the front diff as I did.

Thank you, with the ls2, even with a reshaped oil pan, I'd like to get the engine lower and further back. Any idea if the sas gives more clearance than factory?

With a SAS you can locate the axle anywhere you like. There are no rulesand few limitations.. if you where to push the axle forward you could drop the engine lower. By adding a short nose water pump you can install a thin crank pully and this will take about 4" off the front of the engine. This should give you enough room to drop the engine down real low.

Definitely sounds like the way to go then. I know the old jeep wagoneer dana 44s were popular. Are there any good 1 ton options? I was looking at 2004 ford f250 axles since they're available with leaf springs, but they're like 70" wide. Any good options? Especially something modern and easy to source?
