So the 99 trooper I want to buy has a clogged port for the EGR valve. It currently will not pass inspection because of this. It causes the check engine light to come on and throw a code about flow to the egr valve. Anyone have this before or know how to fix it? According to the mechanic it would be about $700 because you have to take the manifold off.

$700, wow! Here is a thread on how to clean it. http://www.icess.ucsb.edu/~greg/rodeo/egr.htm

The normal procedure is to remove the EGR valve, 2 bolts and a plug.

Inspect the valve. There is a pin that should move in and out. If it is gunked, spray it with some carb clean and make sure the pin moves freely.

Have someone start the car and give it enough gas to keep it running. Shoot the rest of the can of carb cleaner into the 2 holes that were covered by the EGR. Alternatively, pour some sea foam into the holes. Some also run a long pipe cleaner through the holes.

Replace the gasket and install the 2 bolts and plug.
