what motor, how many miles, how often is it driven, what reigon of the country and does air temp affect it?

the best i can do is guess.I have owned 4 Amigo's and 2 had that motor.With age the throttlebody would wear to the point and the throttle would hang up making the initial part of the peddle very stiff.After a while of this then the problem you have would start.It can be a real problem off-road.Good luck
