All,

So, I was looking for an LSD/locker for the Dana 44 in the Amigo and I stumbled upon the Detroit Electrac. It sounds like a very clever concoction. It acts as a Torsen differential (all-gear LSD) and when a switch is pushed, it becomes a locked differential. I like the idea that there is no clutch plates to wear out and the fact that straight gear oil (no need for LSD additive) is all it needs.

The price is a little prohibitive at almost $800 (cheapest I have seen is $780, with $795 for most vendors) and since it's very new, there is very little to no reviews about its durability, especially for the frail-looking shift fork and electronics (especially the electronic solenoid). It does have a "limp home" mode that will put the differential at Torsen mode. IMO, any slip-limiting diff is better than an open diff when you are 4 wheeling.

If anyone ever heard/seen anything about this differential, please post, I'd love to hear from you. A couple URLs with discussion about Electrac:

Let's discuss :)
