Cylinder head

I want to start this by saying this might have been a one off problem or a compatibility issue and after talking to the guy at Clearwater he seemed to be very nice and appreciative of the feedback. With that said I ordered a bare casting for a 2.3 head and it had a few issues. The main issue was that the actuating rod for the mechanical fuel pump did not properly fit the head. I had to refit the rod to the head and it required pulling the cam etc. While it did not take too long to fix the problem it is something I was not too excited about doing. I just wanted to give a heads-up so if anyone else is doing a project using this casting to be aware. Again, not necessarily knocking them, everything worked out fine so far, just trying to give feedback so everyone is aware.

I highly recommend verifying decking.
Also verifying that all valve seal evenly.
There are reason why I re-manufacture my own cylinder heads.
I and several others have had good luck w Clearwater, others King (which Jerry is fond of). However with both every once in while there is someone like you that has had a issue of some sort. I personally helped another install a king head and it kept breaking rocker arms. After looking close we discovered the valve hats were flat instead of recessed......King took care of it and even refunded some the money for having to redo the job. Both in every instance have been willing to do whatever they can to fix the issue.

I would be apt to say everyone makes mistakes and if thye do the right thing and fix it deserve the chance to be used again. No one is perfect........even you Shawn lmao

I also have used both 2.3 and 2.6 heads from clearwater with great results. The 2.6 one I used my cam and the 2.3 was bought complete. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again if the need arises. Followed all the posts here and used fel=pro head gasket on the 2.3 and an OE gasket I got from Jerry on the 2.6 again with great results.

Hey... Now...wait a minute....why do I feel attacked? Nah, my skin is far thicker than that.

I know I make mistakes, we all do. My latest mistake was building a performance air cooled Porsche 911 engine for a customer. It produced 658 HP on a dyno & looked beautiful too. Installed it into the car & putted around for 200 miles. Became more aggressive over the next week before unleashing the beast. Well.... that beast lasted 3 F#+&ing days. Apparently, piston are not supposed to make thier way into the sump? 48 thousand dollar engine done & I warrantied it before it even left the shop.. dammit!
