Can anyone tell me what type of cv axle an 88 4x4 with a 2.6 takes.
On autopartsgiant.coms website they list two types for an 88, one is
9/16"ribed inboard joint and the other is 11/16" smooth inboard joint.

I would call them and ask but most of the people that answer the phones
would not be able to help.

That depends on what date your truck came off the line in 88. I can't remember the cutoff date, or to which group I belong. I would go to a good auto parts store with your production date in hand (found on the inside of your door), and act like you wanna buy the part there.

When attempting to buy the assembly there, the computers will set you up with a ribbed or smooth based on your production date. Come to think of it, you can probably just call.

thanks for your reply, I found out that there are numbers stamped on the outer housing or the unit, one starts with nsk the other i think starts with
ntn, these letters will identify if it is smooth or ribed. The nsk is the 9/16"
smooth this is the one that goes to my 88 4x4 pickup. Just a note I just
rebuilt the engine at half a million original miles.

Truck still had original clutch and cv joints, it had one valve job and a few
other minor part replacments in that time.
