At 200.00, even a decent used engine wouldn't last long (on the market). Dennis

Dennis,

You might be surprised at how long a decent used engine would sit on the market. Since they're not easy to ship, the market is often limited to locals. So it depends a lot on where it happens to be. I've seen running engines offered for free, with no takers.

But that one is in possibly the most likely US market to have any demand -- Portland.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. With anything old, collectible etc. you have to have the right audience and most of the time that is not local. Especially if you live in a rural area. Right in the middle of rebuilding mine and I would have snapped that up in a NY second just for spares or for a back up.

I guess I was thinking more "local market". I know that anything (Isuzu 2.3 / 2.6) that comes into a boneyard down here, the engine is gone within a matter of days (unless bad thrust bearings). Likewise, when I had a few Isuzu parts on my local craigslist, folks were emailing me looking for engines.
I agree, with expensive and cumbersome shipping, a shipped purchase is most likely out of the question. I ended up taking my MUA5 to the dump because nobody wanted it - even for free.

Good deal on a low-miles engine/trans/transfer case package (50,667 miles!). You'd definitely want to re-torque the head and adjust the valves to make sure it stays running well.

Hello All,

To all trooper owners I happen to have a 1989 is Isuzu trooper drive train ( transmission and engine) Available with only 50,000 highway miles on it. The motor is a four cylinder 4ZE1 and The transmission is a manual five speed also it comes with the transfer case. Please contact me if you have any questions I have the whole vehicle in my garage and I'm parting it out so if you need any other parts just let me know, and we can work something out!

Not too bad for (4) with the hard-to-find center caps! Pretty dingy but you could blast them, they'd look good with a coat of paint on 'em.

Dupli-Color makes a lot of really nice ceramic-based paints that look great and are quite durable. I used some of their brake caliper paint on my Big Brake calipers and they turned out nice.

The silver color was almost a perfect match for some Nissan Frontier wheels I needed to paint.

Says it's got a noisy rod bearing, a good candidate for 3.4 swap, or "3.2" build. 5-speed, would also be a good donor for a Trooper refresh or ?

Still running good enough to put on a trailer or tow dolly, or find the cylinder that's knocking, pull the plug wire out of the dist cap, and drive 'er home!!

Great Vehicle.
Failing Rod Bearing - Uncomfirmed but mostly sure.
Rear Latch - Broken on inside will not latch on close of rear hatch
Front Wheels - Pads, Rotors, Wheel Bearings brand new.

Still drives but the last one was risky and I don't know what she's got left in her.
I live as a fairly mobile renter and I need to quit draggin the Rodeo with me.

5 speed manual
with Diesel Engine

from the ad:
1996 isuzu trooper limited edition deluxe model with the powerful 4-cylinder 4JG2 diesel engine 3.1 Liter. This diesel powered Isuzu Trooper SUV has the normal factory left hand drive SUV which one can drive safely and comfortably and not afraid of being on the wrong side of the street while driving. This SUV is an american SUV and not a gray market SUV with the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car. This diesel engine power SUV has leather interior and nice wood trims. This is a solid California car, has no accident damage whatsoever. Still has the Original paint. This deluxe Trooper was the luxurious expensive SUV at the time. This SUV has power seats, power windows, heated seats, heated side mirrors, and big sunroof. Nice looking truck with recent diesel engine conversion. Has a 5-speed manual transmission with new clutch and pressure plate. has recent fuel injection pump rebuild which makes the engine runs strong and smoothly. Excellent fuel economy 25 to 30 mpg. Diesel conversion. Need TLC and some instrument connections. Has a tow hitch to tow a boat or car. Has a clear California Title with Diesel designation. No annual smog is required. Easy ownership transfer without having smog test. Has the original owner manual, wheel lock, and a near new spare rim and tire. Last picture shows an example of a fully "dressed up" isuzu Trooper. $8500 obo

Wonder if the A/C works?

Reminiscent of the time about 30 years ago. My kid brother picked up (read "hauled off") a 55 Chevy Nomad from where it had been sitting for at least 10 years. The car was pretty far gone with bad rust all around the roof. He listed it in the local paper as a project for $1,000.00 (a grand still mean something back then). Some clown calls him and asks "How's the paint on that Nomad?". My kid brother went off on the guy. :D Dennis
