New to forum Hoping someone can offer suggestions. My trooper is running poorly at RPMs close to idle. Check engine light is blinking or on steady. Engine will die at idle, or gallop . Sometimes idle RPMs will increase to 12-1500. Seems to be OK at higher RPM.

2002 Trooper LS, TOD, Purchased new
62,000 miles

Thanks.

Vacuum leaks can cause erratic idle. the smallest hose...
So can a sticky EGR linear valve.

Sometimes the Diagnostic trouble codes are not obvious, but they point the way

My 2nd Gen has been stalling at idle... Finally found the cause, PCV split in half! Looked solid, didn't seem loose until I touched it.

To quote to Scott Kilmer, "Cars need to breathe and exhale just we people do".

So, check if there are any codes in the form of Check Engine Lights. If not, check the Intake Manifold if its caked with black soot, might want to clean that.
Check the PCV valve.
EGR is major culprit. Make sure it works, i.e it's not stuck open. See if the pintle moves freely.
Could be the EGR tube is caked with soot. It is the Exhaust Gas Recirculation after all!!
Could be a bad CAT thats plugged up. Or both.
Fuel Filter maybe Clogged. When was it last replaced.
Fuel Pump might be dying.
Fuel Injectors. Run some Marvel Mystery Oil. It's a good and safe cleaner.

There could be a lot of issues. See if you can go to an Advanced Auto or Orelly's or Autozone and have the CIL's written down. It's hard to pinpoint what the issue is. Could be a mix of problems.
