"Why is it "II"? Well, as explained by Paul Geiger, product-development manager at American Isuzu Motors, the "two" designates the truck version. "One" is the automobile version, meaning it has a rear seat as standard as well as certain other features."

I believe it is because trooper II's were brought into the U.S. with no back seat bolted down. The back seat was bolted down at the port when it arrived. This was to avoid the chicken tax
Yeah, it was literally just a tax loophole as the Trooper II's were technically "trucks" and were subjected to less taxes. Rear seats were just dealer-installed instead of factory-installed. Pretty clever. They're essentially identical!

For you guys with Trooper II's ... are your plates truck plates? Does your title say truck instead of suv?

Also, do we know for what years there were "II" counterparts in the US?
That's a 1984 article, the first year Trooper introduced for US market. I think Isuzu already had "Trooper II" concept from the beginning.

I ever buy a Trooper II badge, and really love how they mold the " II " shape as an addition but integrated with "Trooper" emblem

My Trooper is a II and it is an 87. The door tag says "Truck" my title says SUV. As a side note, I only put my back seat in periodically when I know I will have a second/third passenger which is very rare.
