Hello, does any one know the effect or side effects of capping off and plugging the EGR pipe on a 1990 2.6L trooper. I already took off the air pump belt and my EGR pipe is rusted out and leaking exhaust out the side, so i thought i would just cut and cap it off. I was wondering the what effect it will have on the engine??. thanks

Many theories on this one. But for sure your combustion temperatures
will sky rocket. As well your emmissions will have very high NOx
emmissions. If your simply going to cap off your pipe and let the EGR
valve suck in fresh air instead you are going to lean the mixture out.
Your computer should be able to compensate with extra fuel.
Nonetheless cars are designed to run lean and to compensate the catalyst
reaction of having extra O2 in the combustion process, which causes high
NOx and high combustion temps, your EGR puts in exhaust gas an anti
catalyst. Adding extra fule would do the same thing but your Hydro
carbon emmissions go up. See how that works.

I do theroize that engines are designed to take the extra heat and that
the EGR is a emmission requirement thing. It is known that without the
EGR your MPG goes up on the Hway. EGR do nothing on cold, idle,
acceleration or high torque requirements, they simply turn off.
