Cancelling a turn signal

360 Views 13 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  lesm
Hi guys. Been trying to fix my turn signal switch so that it cancels out after doing a turn. Right now, the turn signal just keeps going on long after the turn (be it ledt or right).

I attached a picture here of what i see after pulling out the steering wheel. There are two empty holes very close to the center of the wheel and it seems that each hole used to hold a rod that taps the turn signal lever back to off position.

Can anybody tell me how the cancelling works cos putting a small metal rod (just like what the picture shows) does not cancel out the turn signal. ???

Such a pain that your signal lights are still blinking long after youve made the turn.

Please remind us, is this a first gen Trooper?

There should be two little cams, and I don't see them. I'll see if I can post a pic today after work. On my P'up, both of them came loose, and I had to find a better fastener to secure them.
doesnt the steering wheel have pins in those holes to cancel the cams on the switch?

It should. Can get a photo later
Les,

I don't think you saw my question about what vehicle this is.

But here's a pic of the P'up/1st gen Trooper multi-function switch. The cancel levers or cams) are circled.

Ei Joel..... apologies. Came in late. Its an 86 2door trooper.
yeah i was thinking those holes would have small pins that are supposed to hit the plastic to cancel out the turn signal. I did put a fabricated pin but it doesnt work properly. Something is missing in there.
....and your picture joel will certainly help. Those cams should be the missing link that the 2 pins hit to cancel the turn.
Thanks very much. Ill dismantle it again and hope it solves the problem
Here's the back side of my '89 wheel. Two roll pins. They protrude ~12mm

Ei Joel.....
I need to clear something up.
My username is JoeIsuzu -- stolen from the "Joe Isuzu" character in Isuzu's classic commercials. I guess I should have put a space in between when I signed up, but I didn't realize it was allowed.

My real name is Jack. :)

I have known your name is Jack, but I thought it was kind of funny that others would call you Joel instead of Joe?

Mike, if that's still a question --
the capital "i" looks like the lowercase "L":
I (capital "i")
l (lowercase "L")

If I'd separated "Joe" from "Isuzu", it would have been more apparent.

Jack, I get why l and I are confused by some. I don't know about you but I drive an Isuzu, not a suzu. Just say'n.

Les,

Any luck finding where those cams went? I think I see the pins in your pic.
Hi there Jack. Its been over a week since your photo but I havent really investigated the steering wheel and how the cam connects. The truck is currently having an interior re-upholster job but will be coming home this weekend. Thats when ill get down to business. Certainly will update this thread.
And ya.... I drive an Isuzu too, not a suzu... lol ! 😂 I got a kick outta that 😂😂
Good bye Joel, hello Jack.
Cheers
Les
