Can i put the 1991 isuzu trooper LS doors on a 1989 trooper?(my 89 is a 4cly manual)
I got really lucky and found a 1991 Trooper Ls for a donor parts car, but as i went through it (i just needed a tank for my 89) the interior is very nice...

Am i in a good place to swap out the doors etc? This LS has power doors and rear wipers etc.. I would love to do transfer them over, Is that possible?

Yea you can swap the doors over no problem, the power windows and locks are another story as you will have to wire up your '89 Trooper for it which is a lot more work than its worth IMO. Does your '89 really not have a wiper on the tailgate? If not, the '89 should still be wired for it so that would be an easy addition

+1 to no rear wiper on my '89 S
Thank you for that, Is it really difficult to wire the doors? i believe i have everything on the donor truck, can it be simple as just swapping components? On my 89' I did see some inputs on the left-hand rear taillights and it has the blank switch on the dash for the rear switch... very curious to see if i can do it myself, but electrical isn't my forte...

Wow, I knew it was an option but I've probably seen 3 dozen gen 1 Troopers in the last 5 years, none of which had the rear wiper delete so I thought it was a myth. Interestingly, I think my '86 base model is as optioned as a base model could get before the refresh in '88 with power steering, air conditioning, and a rear wiper! Does the wiper delete '89 have two plastic/rubber plugs in the tailgate? I assume it has the wiring behind the blank panel to the right of the HVAC controls and wiring in the rear door behind the trim panel, or no?

It is difficult as you will have to run the entire wiring harness through all the door posts, frame, and body to each door and wire up the fuses and relays in the fuse box. I've had half a dozen gen 1s with manual windows and locks and they all have the slots in the fuse box, but aren't pre-wired. Additionally, I had a '90 with power windows and they were really hard to find parts for, but I think people on here have done successful retrofits just FWIW. If you want it bad enough then send it, but personally I don't think it is worth the trouble
Dang, But i do appreciate the advice.. Thank you..

No plugs in the rear barn door—looks like it wasn’t even ever stamped out. Attached a couple photos. I didn’t see any obvious wiring behind the blank panel next to the HVAC (I installed a battery cutoff switch there) and I’d have to pull the back barn door trim panel to see if there are any remnants there. Also no fluid door in the interior above the driver’s side rear wheel.

That's fascinating and pretty cool! No rear defrost either. I really thought it was a myth. I'm quite surprised Isuzu stamped an entirely different door for models without the rear wiper

Yep, she seems to be as base model as they came in 89!

Do you have factory AC? ... despite it being a base models you still got 4 wheel disc brakes and power steering. in the words of Joe Isuzu "Jeep Cherokee doesn't!"

Ah yes, I do have AC. People are always amazed I have rear discs!
Apologies for hijacking this thread accidentally, @Mason5 lol

Very cool... you probably use it in southern CA. I've only seen 1 first gen without A/C so it must be the ones with A/C were the ones that survived lol. The brake upgrade in 1988 was very significant... 88+ Troopers stop like F1 cars compared to their earlier drum (and smaller front disc) counterparts. Anyways, we can get back on topic now haha
No problem @cmf5 i have the same 89' with disc brake power steering and AC....Behind that rear drivers side panel right where the tail light is i do have an extra input, hoping its for defrost at least....
